The history of punk rock

Punk rock is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. They created fast, hard-edged music, typically with short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY (do it yourself) ethic, with many bands self-producing their recordings and distributing them through informal channels.

By late 1976, bands such as the Ramones, in New York City, and the Sex Pistols and The Clash, in London, were recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement. The following year saw punk rock spreading around the world. Punk quickly, though briefly, became a major cultural phenomenon in the United Kingdom. For the most part, punk took root in local scenes that tended to reject association with the mainstream. An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing youthful rebellion and characterized by distinctive clothing styles and a variety of anti-authoritarian ideologies.

By the beginning of the 1980s, faster, more aggressive styles such as hardcore and Oi! had become the predominant mode of punk rock. Musicians identifying with or inspired by punk also pursued a broad range of other variations, giving rise to post-punk and the alternative rock movement. By the turn of the century, pop punk had been adopted by the mainstream, with bands such as Green Day and The Offspring bringing the genre widespread popularity.

Travis menikah dengan Melissa Kenedy pada 22 September 2001 tapi pasangan ini hanya bertahan selama 11 bulan. Pasangan ini bercerai pada tanggal 6 Agustus 2002. Pada tanggal 30 Oktober 2004 Travis menikah kembali dengan Miss USA 1996 Shanna Moakler. Travis dan Moakler mempunyai 2 orang anak yaitu Landon Asher dan Alabama Luella, serta 1 Moakler Atiana Cecilia de la Hoya anak dari pacar istrinya dengan petinju Oscar De La Hoya. Setelah hampir 2 tahun bersama Travis pun menuntut minta cerai.

Band pop punk Amerika ini terbentuk pada 1992 dengan beranggotakan Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, dan Scott Raynor. Di tahun 1998, masuklah Travis Barker menggantikan Scott sebagai penggebuk drum. Benih-benih perpecahan mulai muncul saat Tom ingin beristirahat sejenak dari tur untuk lebih dekat dengan keluarganya di tahun 2005. Sementara itu, Mark juga merasa sedikit 'dikhianati' karena Travis dan DeLonge bersama-sama membentuk grup baru bernama Box Car Racer yang beraliran jauh dari Blink 182.

Terakhir kali mereka muncul di atas panggung pada Desember 2004 silam dan mengumumkan untuk vakum dalam waktu yang tidak ditentukan. Mark dan Travis akhirnya membentuk grup baru bertajuk +44 sementara Tom yang tidak akur dengan Mark mendirikan Angels & Airwaves.

Namun kecelakaan tragis yang dialami oleh Travis membuat Blink bangkit dari tidurnya. Travis sendiri nyaris tewas dalam kecelakaan pesawat yang terjadi September 2008 lalu. Empat dari enam awak pesawat yang ditumpanginya tewas seketika, hanya Travis dan DJ AM yang selamat walaupun harus menderita luka bakar serius. Hikmahnya, saat sama-sama mengunjungi Travis, Tom dan Mark akhirnya kembali akur setelah beberapa tahun tak saling tegur sapa.

Dan kembalinya Blink 182 nampaknya dipertegas saat mereka muncul bersama-sama di acara Grammy Awards Februari lalu. Di situ Tom dan Mark berteriak, "Blink 182 is back!" Kita tunggu saja album terbaru mereka keluar.

ABOUT DINOSAURUS

Nampaknya walaupun kehidupan dinosaurus sudah pudah diabad masa lalu, selalu
saja dibincangkan sampai-sampai sebentar lagi muncul film Jurasic Park III.

Triassic sampai ke zaman Upper Cretaceous. Contoh-contoh dinosaurus: Giganotosaurus carolinii adalah sejenis dinosaurus. Dari segi bentuk tubuh, jenis ini amat mirip dengan Tyrannosaurus rex, tetapi ukurannya sekitar 2 atau 3 meter lebih besar daripada Tyrannosaurus rex (sebagai acuan, panjang Tyrannosaurus rex ± 13 meter). Pemangsa yang ganas, bersifat sama dengan Tyrannosaurus Rex. Yang membedakan Giganotosaurus dengan yang lain hanyalah ukuran tubuhnya, 3 cakar berlengan besar (Tyrannosaurus rex hanya memiliki 2 cakar dan lengan sangat kecil), dan tulang-tulang seperti sirip pada seluruh permukaan atas tubuhnya, dari ujung moncongnya sampai ujung ekornya. Sirip inipun tidak terlalu terlihat karena amat kecil dibandingkan dengan tubuhnya yang amat besar. Giganotosaurus disebut-sebut sebagai saingan raja kadal Tyrannosaurus karena besar tubuh dan keganasannya.Tyrannosaurus rex (Tyrannosaurus, arti 'kadal tiran' / rex, arti 'raja) merupakan dinosaurus jenis karnivora yang terbesar. T-rex dapat tumbuh sepanjang 12 meter (sekitar 40 kaki)dan berat mencapai 7 ton . Dinosaurus ini memangsa dinosaurus herbivora besar seperti triceratops dan edmontosaurus. Selain itu tyrannosaurus juga diketahui memiliki salah satu gigitan terkuat dibanding hewan lain yang pernah ada.Meskipun tubuh dan kepalanya amat besar tyrannosaurus memiliki suatu kejanggalan, yaitu tangannya yang amat kecil. Tyrannosaurus kemungkinan memakainya untuk bangkit dari tanah saat berbaring. Selain itu ada sedikit bukti kalau mereka memiliki bulu. Tengkorak tyrannosaurus sendiri panjangnya kurang lebih 1,5 meter (sekitar 5 kaki). Rahangnya memiliki gigi yang amat besar sepanjang kurang lebih 15 cm (terbesar). Panjang tubuh monster ini kemungkinan sekitar 12-13 meter.T-rex dapat berlari hingga 70 km/jam,letak matanya pada kepalanya mirip dengan serigala.Tyrannosaurus kemungkinan berperilaku sama seperti buaya dan dan reptil modern lainnya, hal ini diketahui dari bentuk otak mereka yang amat mirip dengan buaya dan aligator. Dalam catatan fosilnya juga ditemukan sedikit bukti perilaku sosial.Sejak pertama ditemukan T-rex menjadi amat terkenal. Salah satu kemunculannya yang paling terkenal adalah dalam film Jurassic Park. Mereka juga dimunculkan dalam serial dokumenter seperti serial 'walking with' dan juga game serta buku.

The slipknot

Hard rock ruled the heartland this weekend as Mötley Crüe, Slipknot and Alice in Chains headlined Rock on the Range. For its third year, the Columbus festival drew 38 bands and sold a two-day total of 56,000 tickets, according to L.A.-based promoter Del Williams. A mixed crowd — college kids in baseball caps to bikers — partied under dreary skies on Saturday, and were energized and ready to toss the devil horns on sunny Sunday.

On day one, before he joined Alice in Chains for a haunting rendition of “Rooster,” Velvet Revolver’s Duff McKagan played a side stage, fronting his band Loaded. “The thing about Rock on the Range, I didn’t understand it until Velvet Revolver played here a couple years ago,” explained Duff backstage between appearances. “It’s in Columbus, a little college town — how big a festival can you have here? But people come here from Cleveland, Detroit, Toledo, Cincinnati, Indiana, West Virginia, from Kentucky, Tennessee. They all converge, and this is the big thing of the summer.”

Saturday afternoon, Korn warmed up the main stage with a set of favorites and singles, playing as a sextet (with an additional touring guitarist and a programmer). In a black-and-white kilt, frontman Jonathan Davis led the band like Mel Gibson in Braveheart, beatboxing and emoting through the breakthrough hit “Freak on a Leash,” the nü-metal disco of “Got the Life,” the call-and-response “Y’all Want a Single” and more.

Alice in Chains returned in full force with new co-vocalist William DuVall (formerly of Comes With the Fall), opening the set with the murky anguish of “Rain When I Die.” Singer-guitarist Jerry Cantrell led the reconstituted Seattle quartet, who bulldozed through choice cuts like “Dam That River,” “Again” and “Man in the Box.” By the mesmerizing set-closer “Would?” the crowd was roaring approval. DuVall isn’t a clone of deceased singer Layne Staley, and though he didn’t hit the notes in quite the same way, he hit them all the right way.

The set was one of just two American summer shows before the band unveils a new album. Slated for September release, the as-yet-untitled disc has a strong buzz. After his set, McKagan called it “the best rock record he’s heard in the last 15 years.” Cantrell — who had nearly twice as many writing credits as the late, great Staley on previous albums — said the record represents the entire AIC spectrum from electric dynamics to unplugged angst. Though the group’s set didn’t feature any new material, DuVall hinted at a subtle new lyrical direction.

“I think there’s always been a little bit of death trip element [and a] survivor element,” said DuVall. “I think maybe the percentage has been a bit inverted [on the new album]. Where some of the records might have been more Scarface, this one is more Shawshank Redemption.”

Slipknot sent the crowd home with bruises. Fronting the nine-man metal squad, Corey “#8″ Taylor took the stage in a dead-skin mask and black blazer, like a charismatic corpse with an office job. Guitarists Mick “#7″ Thomson and Jim “#4″ Root shredded though maggot anthems like “Surfacing, ” “Wait and Bleed,” and “People=Shit,” and brought dark riffage with the new “Dead Memories” from All Hope Is Gone.

Sunday afternoon, the gray clouds were gone. Buckcherry singer Josh Todd took the main stage, torso covered in tattoos, bouncing on his toes and jabbing like and ex-con who’s slugged his way to a title fight. Todd rasped his way through songs about cocaine, redemption, volatile relationships and more cocaine. Fists pumping, the crowd shouted along to every word of the career-reviving “Crazy Bitch.”

At night, it was Crüe Time. When the legends launched their 2004 comeback tour, conventional wisdom said arena rock was dead; as it’s turned out, it was just resting. Teenagers and gray-haired bikers were ready to shout at the devil again. “I think the main reason why Mötley Crüe works is the crowd,” said singer Vince Neil backstage before the set. “The crowd is multiple generations of fans.”

With Crüe’s greatest-hits set, the Fourth of July arrived in May (the band hits the road in July for their Crü Fest 2, on which they will play Dr. Feelgood in its entirety). Neil opened the show whirling his microphone stand like he winding up the band. Tight as ever, the group skipped around its 27-years-and-counting catalog, playing under a shower of fireworks, clouds of smoke, bursts of fire. Representing Crüe’s 1981 debut, “Live Wire” rocked harder than ever. Last year’s single “Saints of Los Angeles” sounds way better live than on the radio. Following strip-club anthem “Girls Girls Girls” and bass showcase “Dr. Feelgood,” breakthrough ballad “Home Sweet Home” closed the night.

But before the Crüe said farewell, drummer Tommy Lee joined Mick Mars’ bluesy guitar solo as it took a quick stomp through Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child (Slight Return).” Midway through the set, the half-naked drummer left the drum kit, gave the crowd a bottle of Jägermeister as a victory toast, and christened Columbus Crew stadium “Mötley Crüe Fuckin’ Stadium.” Soccer or rock, the building’s two-story banner was still applicable: “Champions play here.”

**Lamb Of God mulai terbentuk di tahun 1990 dan sebenarnya pada awalnya dibentuk dari keisengan Mark Morton, Chris Adler,dan John Campbell dalam mengisi waktu luang semasa kuliah di *Virginia ommonwealth University* . Mereka tinggal di satu asrama dan sering berkumpul dan berlatih bersama membawakan lagu lagu Slayer, Pantera, Metallica secara instrumental tanpa vokalis. Setelah mereka lulus, mereka sepakat untuk membangun band ini, dengan anggota baru bernama Randi Blythe sebagai Vokalis dan mereka merilis demo pertama mereka di tahun 1995. Respon dari *scene *metal yang ‘merindukan’ jenis band dengan musik ala Pantera dengan beat2x groovy terjawab sudah, dan lahirlah legenda baru dari ”The New Wave of American Heavy Metal”

Album pertama mereka *New American Gospel* dan diikuti oleh *As The Palaces burns* laris di minggu pertama dirilisnya album ini bahkan menempati posisi chart Billboard selama beberapa pekan. Sehingga Epic Records, sebuah major label di Amerika Serikat yang juga banyak menaungi banyak artis rap, r&b menarik Lamb of God menjadi salah satu artis mereka dengan ditandai dirilisnya album* Ashes the Wake*Album inilah yang semakin mengangkat pamor Lamb of God di scene musik metal dunia karena Epic records merupakan label yang lebih besar dari label mereka sebelumnya, Prosthetic records. Ashes the wake tercatat langsung terjual 35.000 keping cd di minggu pertama penjualannya dan langsung menduduki peringkat 27 di Billboard chart 200 untuk beberapa pekan. Suksesnya Lamb of God diikuti dengan berbagai penghargaan, diantaranya sebagai *2nd best Album of the Year* oleh majalah musik berpengaruh *Revolver*, dan *Best Music Video *oleh MTV2 yang khusus menyiarkan musik rock dan metal.

*Sacrament*, adalah judul album berikutnya yang semakin melambungkan nama Lamb of God ke jajaran metal elit dunia, album yang berhasil menarik perhatian kalangan metal dunia, balik dari kalangan pendengar yang menyukai thrash metal, progressive metal dan extreme metal. Album yang cukup fenomenal ini langsung menduduki peringkat ke 8 di chart billboard 200 dan terjual lebih dari 65.000 CD di minggu pertama penjualan CD ini, sampai sekarang konon telah terjual hamper 500.000 keping CD di seluruh dunia. Dan dari album inilah Lamb of God menjadi *headliner* di berbagai metalfest diseluruh dunia , seperti Ozzfest, Sound of the Underground, Unholy Alliance bersama *Slayer* , Gigantour dengan *Megadeth,* juga akhir tahun 2008 ini, Lamb of God didaulat oleh Metallica untuk bersama melakukan promosi album *Death Magnetic*, karena pihak management Metallica mempertimbangkan dari sekian banyak band yang berpengaruh di scene musik metal dunia, hanya Lamb of God yang pamornya kini setingkat dengan mereka, karena .
